Medical oncology is the treatment of cancer using medication and treatment methods other than radiation. Medical oncologists are knowledgeable about all aspects of cancer care, from prevention and early detection to treatment and symptom management.
At Crozer Regional Cancer Center, medical oncologists are involved in the care of most cancer patients, and often serve as leaders on multi-disciplinary cancer treatment teams. Working closely with other cancer specialists, medical oncologists provide primary cancer treatment, continuous follow-up, consultations, and help to create plans for cancer management. Medical oncology also includes access to clinical research trials, genetic screening, palliative care and pain management.
The medical oncologists at the Crozer Regional Cancer Center use chemotherapy, immunotherapy (including targeted therapy and the use of growth inhibitors), and hormonal therapy to treat cancer. The specific approaches they use to treat each person with cancer are determined by their individual needs, as well as by the type of and stage of the cancer. Our board-certified oncologists are committed to combining personalized care with treatment recommendations based on the latest scientific research.
