Nutritional status can affect a person’s ability to deal with aggressive cancer treatments including surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. In addition, nutrition can affect the individual’s sense of well-being.
Crozer-Keystone Health System has a program for evaluating the nutritional status of hospitalized cancer patients, and making recommendations as indicated. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy staff can also offer nutritional recommendations to their patients. In addition, nutritional counseling is available to outpatients through fee-for-service consultation. A registered dietitian can help to assess individual nutritional needs and develop strategies for meeting those needs.
