Basic Eligibility: Newly diagnosed early stage or locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer

 

Summary: This observational study will look at blood specimens and tumor specimens to see what factors place men and women at greater risk of getting non-small cell lung cancer, and what factors make men and women more susceptible to the effects of smoking. This study does not involve treatment.

 

 

Protocol Name: Phase III Chemoprevention Trial of Selenium Supplementation in Persons with Resected Stage I Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (E5597)

Summary: This study will look at the effect of selenium compared with a placebo on stage I non-small cell lung cancer that has been removed by surgery.

Locally Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

(One Study)

 

Protocol Name: A Phase III Comparison of Prophylactic Cranial Irradiation versus Observation in Patients with Locally Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (RTOG 0214)

Basic Eligibility: Stage III non-small cell lung cancer that has been treated with surgery, radiation, and/or chemotherapy and remains stable or has shrunk following treatment

 

Summary: This study will see the effects of radiation to the brain compared with no radiation to the brain, with the hope of preventing non-small cell lung cancer from spreading to the brain.

Advanced/Inoperable Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Protocol Name: Phase III Trial Comparing Whole Brain Radiation and Stereotactic Radiosurgery Alone versus with Temozolomide or Gefitinib in Patients with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer and 1-3 Brain Metastases (RTOG 0320)

Summary: This study will compare the effects of radiation therapy (including radiation to the whole brain and stereotactic radiosurgery) alone, or with a drug called temozolomide, or with a drug called iressa.

Limited Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer
(Two Studies)

 

Protocol Name: A Phase II/III Randomized Trial of Two Dose Schedules for Delivering Prophylactic Cranial Irradiation for Patients with Limited Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer (RTOG 0212)

Basic Eligibility: Limited stage small cell lung cancer that has responded completely to treatment with radiation and chemotherapy

 

Summary: This study will compare the effects of two different dose schedules for radiation therapy to the brain, with the hope of preventing spread of the cancer to the brain.

 

 

Protocol Name: A Phase II Randomized Trial with Captopril in Patients Who Have Received Radiation Therapy Chemotherapy for Stage II – IIIB NSCLC, Stage I Central NSCLC, or Limited Stage SCLC (RTOG 0123)

Medical Condition: Small cell lung cancer

Summary: This study will see the effect of a drug called Captopril in patients receiving radiation therapy as treatment for lung cancer that has not spread to other parts of the body.
