Medical oncology is the treatment of cancer using medication and treatment methods other than radiation. Crozer-Keystone medical oncologists are involved in the care of most cancer patients, and often serve as leaders on multi-disciplinary cancer treatment teams. Working closely with other cancer specialists, medical oncologists provide primary cancer treatment, continuous follow-up, consultations, and help to create plans for cancer management. Medical oncology also includes access to clinical research trials, genetic screening, palliative care and pain management.
Our medical oncologists use an ever-expanding variety of approaches including chemotherapy, immunotherapy (including targeted therapy and the use of growth inhibitors), and hormonal therapy in the treatment of cancer. The specific approaches used to treat each person with cancer are determined by their individual needs as well as by the type of and stage of the cancer. Our board-certified oncologists are committed to combining personalized care with treatment recommendations based on the latest scientific research.
