Upland, Pa. - Anthony Sciscione, D.O., has been named the chief of Obstetrics and director of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Crozer-Chester Medical Center. Board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Maternal Fetal Medicine, Dr. Sciscione specializes in the treatment of high risk pregnancies, and is currently involved in research projects on prematurity and the induction of labor.

“We are very pleased to have Dr. Sciscione join us as the chief of Obstetrics at Crozer,” says Joan K. Richards, chief operating officer of Crozer-Keystone Health System and president of CKHS hospitals. “He brings a special blend of clinical skills, research experience and demonstrated leadership talents to the medical center.”

New to the health system, Scioscione previously served as the director of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine. He is a graduate of the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed his residency at the Medical Center of Delaware as well as a fellowship in perinatology at Johns Hopkins University Medical Center.

Sciscione will divide his time between the Center for Maternal Fetal Medicine at Crozer and the Perinatal Testing Unit at Delaware County Memorial Hospital.

In addition to existing services offered at the Center for Maternal Fetal Medicine, Sciscione will offer first-trimester risk assessments at Crozer. The state-of-the-art test screens for Down syndrome and Trisomy 18 during the first trimester.  Conducted between 11 and 14 weeks gestation, the simple finger stick blood test and nuchal translucency ultrasound can detect up to 90 percent of Down syndrome cases.

“Dr. Sciscione is a great addition to the medical center,” says Joseph Saunders, chief operating officer at Crozer-Chester Medical Center and CKHS vice president. “His commitment to providing high quality care and the latest technology in diagnostic and treatment will benefit all of the obstetric patients at Crozer.”
