UPLAND, Pa- Springfield resident Maureen Bendyna, R.EEG/EP T., RPSGT, CNIM, clinical instructor and continuing education coordinator for the School of Clinical Neurophysiology at Crozer-Chester Medical Center was named “Outstanding Educator” for 2006 by the American Society of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists.
The award, known as the Theda Sannit Outstanding Educator Award, was established to recognize an exceptional instructor in the field of Electroneurodiagnostics (END). Bendyna was chosen for the award based on her professional contributions to the areas of teaching, training and education development. She has demonstrated her expertise by creating training materials, directing programs and providing instruction to electroneurodiagnostic technologists.
Bendyna took a teaching position within the School of Clinical Neurophysiology in 1995, after graduating from the program in 1984. She has been in the END field for over 20 years. She has also served on several esteemed committees of education, including the Committee on Accreditation of END Technologists and the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs.
Bendyna has provided direction for over 10 classes of students; and has watched them grow from apprentices to competent END technologists.
Sannit, the award’s namesake, was Bendyna’s supervisor in her first professional position and was in attendance when the award was presented earlier this year at the American Society of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists’ annual meeting in Philadelphia.
Bendyna credited the work of her colleagues in the School of Clinical Neurophysiology and the national esteem the school has gained through its online program. She says, “Together, we are responsible for a most notable contribution toward advancing national goals in education in the field of electroneurodiagnostics. After investing considerable time and other resources over a period of four years, our efforts to develop an online END program have paid off and Crozer is now well known across the country. We even have students in parts of Canada and Australia as well. The American Society of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists has invited us to speak and join committees and boards so that our experience with our online program can help create the national model for education.”
