MEDIA - Media Medical Plaza, an outpatient medical facility located at 200 East State Street in Media, Pa., has added to its extensive range of services by installing a 64-slice computed tomography (CT) scanner.
“We’re happy to now have a 64-slice CT scanner available at Media Medical Imaging,” says Lorna Blum, M.D., medical director of the Plaza’s radiology facility, Media Medical Imaging. “64-slice CT imaging sets a very high standard of providing high-resolution images in multiple planes while diminishing actual time of study, and combined with our facility’s pleasant atmosphere and highly-trained personnel, it will be a valuable asset to the Media community.”
The 64-slice technology allows physicians to see more of the body’s detail in a fraction of the time required by previous radiological studies. The study requires only 15 to 30 minutes of the patient’s time (compared to the previous 4 to 5 hours required by traditional angiography, for example), requires no recovery time and allows physicians to see even the smallest of structures in the body.
Besides boasting technological advances, the scanner is located in a newly constructed room that is specially designed using natural light and an open floor plan in an effort to reduce the patient’s stress and increase his or her comfort level.
In addition to adding 64-slice CT technology, Media Medical Plaza began offering laboratory services in October. The lab is equipped with advanced instrumentation and technology required to perform highly sophisticated tests and blood and urine collection services. The Plaza also welcomed the Family Physicians Practice of board-certified physicians Jan Gavis, D.O., Michael Prime, D.O., and John Munshower, D.O.; and the obstetrics/gynecology practice of Joseph Sincavage, M.D., FACOG.
“At Media Medical Imaging, we listen to our customers and try to give them what they want,” says Lisa Iacovelli, site coordinator for Media Medical Imaging. “When a patient walks through the front door, everyone he or she encounters — from the front desk receptionist to the radiology technologist — is dedicated to doing everything we can for the patient. As a health system, Crozer-Keystone is very aware of the benefits of new technologies for patients, and adding 64-slice CT technology and lab services is one way we’re bringing those services to our customers.”
Other amenities available at the facility, which opened in 2000, include dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), fluoroscopy, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), mammography, ultrasound and computed radiography (X-ray).
“As an added bonus, Media Medical Imaging is filmless. Rather than waiting on the return of a pack of films, physicians can access radiological images nearly instantaneously through PACS (Picture Archiving Communications System, which allows for computer viewing through a secure Internet connection),” says Frank Kline, CKHS administrative director of Radiology. “It’s very convenient for the patient as well as the physician, and it cuts down on the amount of time that would ordinarily lapse between the patient’s study and the physician’s interpretation.”
Patients who come to Media Medical Imaging for studies not only benefit from cutting-edge technology, but also from a friendly, home-like environment staffed by highly trained employees at the site.
“Each employee at Media Medical Imaging is experienced in his or her field and has gone through a rigorous interviewing process,” Kline says. “Our goal was to hire people who can make our patients feel comfortable and welcomed while providing top-of-the-line care and service. We feel we’ve accomplished that, and our staff reflects that attitude.”
Media Medical Imaging offers radiology and laboratory services throughout the week, including early morning and late evening appointments and Saturday hours. The facility is located in the heart of Media, with free garage parking available on-site for patients. It is conveniently accessible to public transportation and the shops and restaurants of the town.
