RIDLEY PARK, Pa. – Local residents learned the risk factors for lung cancer – and how to reduce those risks – during a special lecture by John D. Sprandio, M.D., Taylor Hospital hematologist/oncologist and medical director of the Delaware County Regional Cancer Center at Delaware County Memorial Hospital, on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006.
During the lecture, entitled “Lung Cancer: You’ll Breathe Easier When You Know the Facts,” Dr. Sprandio educated those in attendance about the signs and symptoms of lung cancer, which is diagnosed in an estimated 164,000 Americans each year. He also outlined steps to take to reduce your risk of developing lung cancer, including quitting smoking and reducing your exposure to secondhand tobacco smoke, and explained the treatment options for patients diagnosed with various stages of lung cancer.
Dr. Sprandio’s lecture was one of a series of events provided at no cost to the community to educate residents about important health issues. Next month’s event, “Macular Degeneration: Take a Clear Look at the Latest Treatment Options,” featuring John Rizzo, M.D., chief of the Section of Ophthalmology at Taylor Hospital, will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 11, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in Classrooms A & B of the hospital.
