Free Multicultural Health and Wellness Fair,
Upper Darby
Pride Day to Focus on Immigrant
Children and Families

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 2006

SPRINGFIELD, Pa. – The Cultural Connections Collaborative at Crozer-Keystone Health System invites recently immigrated children and their families to attend this year’s Multicultural Health and Wellness Fair, part of Upper Darby Pride Day, on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at Beverly Hills Middle School, 1400 Garrett Road, Upper Darby.

Last spring’s event attracted hundreds of Delaware County residents of all ages, and from all parts of the globe.

The Cultural Connections Collaborative is a program based at Crozer-Keystone Health System (CKHS) that aims to improve the overall wellness of immigrant children in the district by reducing significant barriers that result in absenteeism and impaired performance at school.

Among the fair’s offerings:

  • Free information from a variety of local health and wellness organizations, including agencies and bilingual/bicultural health professionals who specialize in child and adolescent health and safety topics, such as nutrition, injury prevention and immunizations;
  • Free screenings for vision, dental, osteoporosis, glucose, blood pressure, cholesterol and pulmonary function, provided by the Crozer-Keystone Health System;
  • Free performances by cultural and student groups;
  • Free food and refreshments;
  • Exhibits and information from dozens of local community organizations.

Interpreters will be on-site to assist discussion with vendors.

The Multicultural Health and Wellness Fair is made possible through the generous support of the Upper Darby School District, Crozer-Keystone Health System, Upper Darby Township and local businesses.

The Cultural Connections Collaborative (CCC) is part of Crozer-Keystone Health System’s Community Health Education Department. CCC works with Upper Darby School District and community organizations to help immigrant and refugee families access services like primary health care, health insurance, immunizations and behavioral health services.
