UPLAND—Bringing years of clinical and professional experience with him, Garrett Colmorgen, M.D., was recently named Chief of Obstetrics and Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Upland, PA.
“I was excited to take this position in the Crozer-Keystone Health System and look forward to the many exciting professional and clinical challenges my new role will present,” says Colmorgen.
Board-certified in obstetrics, gynecology and maternal fetal medicine, Colmorgen comes to Crozer-Keystone from the Christina Care Health System, where he served as Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine.
“Dr. Colmorgen brings a breadth of experience to the Crozer-Keystone community,” says Joan K. Richards, president and chief executive officer of Crozer-Keystone Health System. “His excellence in clinical care, proven leadership skills and dedication to community make him a welcomed addition to the system.”
Colmorgen received his undergraduate degree from the Centre College of Kentucky, where he majored in Chemistry, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Colmorgen spent both his internship and residency at the Monmouth Medical Center in New Jersey before completing a fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia.
“As a medical student, I enjoyed working with pregnant women – they always appeared to be willing to take instruction and there was an opportunity to make a difference in their lives and the lives of their children,” says Colmorgen of his decision to specialize in maternal fetal medicine. “As a resident, I became aware of this relatively new specialty that would permit me to work with young women and women with complications which were quite interesting.”
At Crozer-Keystone, Colmorgen will head up the Maternal Fetal Medicine Center, located at both Crozer and Delaware County Memorial Hospital. Both centers offer comprehensive care and services to moms-to-be and their unborn babies. Services provided include testing to monitor the health of the baby, such as Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS), amniocentesis, Level II ultrasound, Doppler flow analysis, fetal echocardiogram, non-stress testing and biophysical profile.
“Through my position, I hope to provide leadership to the department, and I hope to coordinate among the departments the continuity of care that has earned Crozer-Keystone Health System the strong reputation it has,” says Colmorgen. “I believe by taking small steps every day, we can accomplish bigger goals, such as streamlining our services and having the Maternal Fetal Medicine Centers at both sites running cohesively and fluently.”
“Dr. Colmorgen comes with a great reputation, extensive experience and a commitment to excellence,” says Joseph Saunders, president of Crozer-Chester Medical Center. “We all welcome Dr. Colmorgen to Crozer and Crozer Keystone.”
In addition to his role at Crozer-Keystone, Colmorgen will continue as the active southern region representative at the national office of the March of Dimes, and as chairman of the Child-Death, Near-Death and Still-Death Commission of Delaware. A part of the commission’s work is the Fetal and Infant Mortality Review (FIMR), a process that continually assesses, monitors, and works to improve service systems and community resources for women, infants, and families.
Colmorgen’s dedication to community service over the years has earned him awards from both the March of Dimes, which presented him with the National Distinguished Volunteer Service Award; and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology’s (ACOG) District III President’s Community Service Award.
