Organizations Launch Public Awareness and “Caring Critters” Drive at Annual Breakfast to Highlight Children’s Needs
On Tuesday, March 25, at 8 a.m., U.S. Attorney Patrick Meehan, Esq., Delaware County Council Chair Linda Cartisano, Esq., and Delaware County District Attorney Michael Green, Esq., will speak on behalf of the 6th annual Stand for Children campaign at the campaign’s opening breakfast at the Towne House Restaurant, 117 Veterans Square in Media.
At the breakfast, speakers will provide information about both child abuse and the prevention initiative, including speakers, public service announcements, and materials available to employers, parents and the community.
Stand for Children partners will also begin conducting their annual drive to collect “Caring Critters,” which are new stuffed animals collected for distribution to children who are in care or treatment because of abuse.
Since 2002, local child welfare organizations, health care providers, businesses, and Delaware County Council members have collaborated each April to create awareness of child abuse through the Stand for Children campaign. In 2007, the Department of Children and Youth Services handled 1,780 reports of child abuse in Delaware County alone. But in the same year, Stand for Children reached over 10,000 individuals throughout Delaware County and is continuing to strengthen its child abuse prevention campaign with action.
