
Among those participating in the Rev. UPLAND - Crozer-Chester Medical Center hosted a special celebration in remembrance of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for employees and members of the local community on Jan. 21. The celebration, which was attended by more than 250 people, included inspirational remarks, an award presentation and musical performances.
Among the presenters were U.S. Congressman Joseph Sestak, Crozer-Chester Medical Center President Joseph Saunders, and keynote speaker Lamell McMorris, the principal of Perennial Strategy Group in Washington, D.C., and former executive director and CEO of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. In addition, the Chester Friends Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends received a “Spirit Award,” and the African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas Gospel Choir of Philadelphia presented several rousing musical numbers.
The event was part of a “day of service” coordinated by the MLK Jr. Commemorative Committee of Chester and Vicinity.
The Crozer Theological Seminary, where Dr. King earned his divinity degree in 1951, was formerly located on Crozer’s campus. It was at Crozer that King developed his ideas about nonviolence as a method of social reform.
