Receiving the award on behalf of the entire DCMH NICU staff was Rose Isaacson, nurse manager of the Maternal/Child Health Unit, Linda McKillop, a nurse of the Maternal/Child Health Unit, and Jerri LaRocco, assistant Vice President of Patient Services at DCMH.
DREXEL HILL, Pa. – Delaware County Memorial Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit was recently presented with a plaque from the March of Dimes and a family whose children were treated at the NICU, in recognition of the physicians and staff who fight to save babies’ lives every day. The recognition award was part of the organization’s annual “Day of Gratitude” in honor of Prematurity Awareness Month, which was in November.
Presenting the award with the March of Dimes was Kathleen Cappiello and her twins, Mark and Marissa—who spent about three months in the DCMH NICU. The Cappiellos used the opportunity to honor DCMH for their efforts in saving the twins’ lives.
“I pretty much owe my children’s lives to the DCMH NICU,” says Kathleen Cappiello. “Because of this, we joined the March of Dimes staff in honoring those nurses and doctors who took such wonderful care of our children. Even though Mark had to be sent to a different hospital after his first month of life because of his sickness, the hardworking staff continued to take care of Marissa and showed our family nothing but compassion.”
“On behalf of the entire NICU staff, we are honored to receive this recognition award from the March of Dimes and the Cappiello family,” says Rose Isaacson, nurse manager of the Maternal/Child Health Unit at DCMH. “We hope that our continued efforts in saving babies from conditions such as premature birth will help not only the March of Dimes, but other families who need our compassion and care.”
Kathleen Cappiello and her family have been volunteering with the March of Dimes and have helped out locally with their programs for the past three years.
The March of Dimes is a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.
