SPRINGFIELD – Hundreds enjoyed an evening of family fun, food and friendly competition at the 8th Annual Running of the Monk 5K Run/Walk event, held June 6 at the Knights of Columbus in Springfield.
One of Delaware County’s most popular 5K events, the Running of the Monk once again featured a great race, good food, live music and fun for the whole family. Nearly 900 men, women and children registered for the 5K run, 5K walk and kids’ fun run, easily besting last year’s total of approximately 600 participants. Jon Gries of King of Prussia was the top male finisher with a time of 15:38, while Meghan Dickinson of Philadelphia was the top finisher at 20:20.
Attendees also enjoyed a runner’s expo, free swimming in the Knights of Columbus pool, and a Barbeque Blast sponsored by Victory Brewing and featuring live music by Almost Fab.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Asthma Day Camp, a one-week camp held each summer at the Healthplex Sports Club in Springfield for asthmatic children, as well as Knights of Columbus charities.
