For many, managing money and paying bills has become a strictly Web-based experience. Interactive websites make it very easy to trade stocks, check your bank account and pay your cable bill all on your computer. Following this trend, Crozer-Keystone Health System has made it possible for patients to manage their accounts and view and pay bills online through new services known as eStatements and ePayments.
Patients can now do the following through Crozer-Keystone’s website, www.crozer.org:
- Review a statement.
- Pay a bill in one of several ways. “Just Pay It” is for patients who do not visit the hospital frequently. They can pay bills online without establishing a user ID and password with the health system. “The “Frequent Patient” option is good for patients who visit Crozer-Keystone hospitals more often or who want more functionality. They can track payments for multiple accounts. They can also automate payments and make periodic recurring payments, if needed.
- Register to receive all future statements electronically.
“As a health system, we are always working to offer our patients greater flexibility and greater service. We recognize that more and more patients do everything on the Web, so it seems natural for us to be able to allow them to view and pay their health care bills online,” says Richard Madison, Crozer-Keystone’s vice president of the Revenue Cycle.
The health system’s first step in implementing these new services was converting Crozer-Keystone’s current paper statement to a “Patient Friendly Statement.” The new statement features more color, larger fonts and an easy-to-understand format. More importantly, the statement provides patients with information about how to access their billing information through a link located at the top of the main page on Crozer-Keystone’s website. Patients are provided with login information in the paper statement.
Crozer-Keystone staff members have worked for months to create a system that is not only easy to use and convenient, but is also highly secure.
“Crozer-Keystone understands the importance of maintaining the strict privacy of our patients’ health information and financial information. We have gone through extensive testing of all aspects of these systems to make sure that they are safe and secure,” Madison says.
