More than cancer survivors and their family members joined Crozer-Chester Medical Center in celebrating Cancer Survivors Day on May 29 at Crozer Regional Cancer Center, One Medical Center Boulevard in Upland.
Cancer Survivors Day is an annual free celebration of life held in communities throughout North America. Participants unite in this symbolic event to honor the millions of people who are surviving their cancer diagnosis and who demonstrate that cancer survivors are active and productive members of society.
The celebration included the presentation of several “Celebrate Life” awards given annually by the Cancer Center. The “Survivor Recognition Award” was given to Marie Datillo, a cancer survivor from who volunteers at the Cancer Center. “Community Recognition” awards were given to the First Mile Foundation, which provides funds to the Cancer Center each year to help patients, and the Laborers Local Union 413 from Chester, which has worked with the Cancer Center to schedule cancer screenings for its members.
The event also featured inspirational stories from two cancer survivors and a performance by the Grace and Truth Delegation. Raymond J. Vivacqua, M.D., medical director of the Cancer Center, served as master of ceremonies.
The celebration concluded with a candlelight ceremony and refreshments.
