DCMH Midwife Presented with
"Award for Excellence" from
American College of Nurse Midwives

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 2008

Rebcca Choitz, CNM, M.S.N., celebrates her 2008 Regional Award for Excellence from the American College of Nurse Midwives with one of her patients, Lynette Crews, and her newborn son, Aizik. Choitz is practice director of The Midwives of Delaware County and director of Midwifery Services for Crozer-Keystone Health System.

Drexel Hill, Pa. – Rebecca (Becca) Choitz, CNM, M.S.N., practice director of The Midwives of Delaware County, Upper Darby, Pa., and director of Midwifery Services for Crozer-Keystone Health System, received a 2008 Regional Award for Excellence from the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM). Presented annually, the award is given to a member of each ACNM region who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to midwifery. Choitz was a co-recipient along with two other midwives in Region II, which includes Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Choitz was recognized for working tirelessly for over a decade to improve the practice environment for certified nurse midwives (CNMs) in Pennsylvania, most recently working for prescriptive authority. Over the past year, she skillfully negotiated final passage of a legislative bill granting authority to write prescriptions to CNMs in Pennsylvania. She also mentored students and midwives through the political process and provided insightful negotiating leadership.

A practicing midwife for 23 years, Choitz received her certification as a nurse midwife from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and her master’s degree in nursing from Case Western Reserve. She has delivered more than 2,000 babies. A past chair of the Pennsylvania Chapter of ACNM, Choitz is a member of the clinical faculty of the University of Pennsylvania. She also served on the Health Commissioner’s Commission on HIV and Pregnancy, developing the Health Department HIV screening and treatment guidelines for Pennsylvania.

The Midwives of Delaware County offer a full range of obstetrical and gynecological care from their office at Barclay Square in Upper Darby. They have helped more than 4,000 women deliver their babies safely and in the nurturing environment of home-like birthing suites. Currently, the midwives deliver about 25 percent of all babies born at Delaware County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) in Drexel Hill, Pa. The Midwives of Delaware County and DCMH are part of the Crozer-Keystone Health System, the largest employer and health care provider in Delaware County.

We’re 5 hospitals, 2600 doctors and nurses, and 7,100 caring people with 1 vision. Crozer-Keystone. Something to feel good about.
