“Dancing with Seniors” competition.
SPRINGFIELD, Pa—Look out Marie Osmond, Drew Lachey and Emmitt Smith—Arlene Brown, of Lansdale, Pa. and Joe Sacca, of Vineland, NJ have been announced the winners of Crozer-Keystone Health System’s first-ever “Dancing with Seniors” competition.
The competition took place at the Healthplex® Sports Club in Springfield and included eight couples 55 years and older performing three separate dances, including Latin and ballroom.
After the first round, the field was narrowed down to only four couples out of the original eight that participated. The remaining couples then performed a dance of their choice from swing, Latin or waltz. The audience, which consisted of about 100 people, chose the winning couple at the end of the competition.
“I was so excited when we won the competition,” Brown says. “Joe and I have known each other for years and we haven’t danced together in a long time. It felt so good to be on that dance floor again.”
Brown, who watches “Dancing with the Stars” faithfully, never expected to win the competition. “I took lessons ten years ago and if it wasn’t for my dance instructor, Charlie Hendler, I wouldn’t have won.”
The judges for the event were Ginny LaGrossa, long-time dance enthusiast; Jaime Carr, director of Concord Dance Studio and The Dance Zone; and Kathi Agovino of Kathi’s Dance Studio in Morton, Pa.
Brown and Sacca have been dancing together since the 1940s and they do not plan to stop anytime soon. “I’m in it to win it again next year if it is still being held,” says Brown.
