RIDLEY PARK, Pa. – Dennis W. Cronin, M.D., general surgeon and immediate past president of the Medical and Dental Staff at Taylor Hospital, was awarded the first annual Horace Furness Taylor, M.D., Physician Service Excellence Award. The award was presented at Taylor’s semi-annual physicians’ meeting on September 16, 2008.
Taylor Hospital developed this award in the name of Horace Furness Taylor, M.D., a pioneer in the delivery of health care in our community. Dr. Taylor was truly committed to compassionate care, community involvement and leadership. According to Eric Heffelfinger, D.O., president of Taylor Hospital’s Medical and Dental Staff, "The newly created Horace Taylor Award seeks to identify outstanding physician performance in both clinical and community realms. Dr. Cronin is without a doubt the most qualified individual to receive this distinction. He possesses excellent surgical skills and uses them in a calm, effective manner that benefits patients, hospital staff and physicians alike. I think Dr. Taylor would be pleased with Dr. Cronin receiving his first namesake award.”
Cronin, the first recipient of this reputable honor, has distinguished himself through his many contributions to Taylor Hospital. He is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, and has been a member of the Medical and Dental staff at Taylor since 1975. In addition to holding the position of vice chairman of the Department of Surgery at Taylor, Cronin is also a member of Taylor’s Executive Committee. In the past, he has served as chairman of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
“I am truly surprised and honored to receive this award, and especially humbled to be the first recipient,” Cronin says. “Taylor Hospital has held a special place in my heart for the past 33 years, and I am proud to be part of a community filled with such caring and compassionate people.”
“I am fortunate to have known Dr. Cronin for many years,” says Diane Miller, president of Taylor Hospital. “I’ve witnessed first-hand his kind and compassionate demeanor to patients and staff, and he is known for his excellent clinical skills. He will set the bar very high for future award recipients.”
All members of the Taylor Hospital family—including employees, administration and management, volunteers and the Medical and Dental Staff—had the opportunity to nominate someone for this distinguished honor. Certain physicians were selected on a quarterly basis, and of those few, Cronin was named the final winner of the first annual Horace Furness Taylor, M.D. Physician Service Excellence Award.
“Dennis Cronin is truly deserving to be named the first recipient of this award,” says David Kalodner, D.O., chairman of the Department of Family Medicine and chairman of the Physician Service Excellence Committee at Taylor Hospital. “I trust many of my own patients to Dr. Cronin, and he doesn’t disappoint. He is a true patient advocate, a good doctor and a gentleman.”
