Department to Offer Programs for
Local Seniors in October

SPRINGFIELD, Pa. – Crozer-Keystone Health System’s Senior Health Services Department will offer a number of informational programs during the month of October. Because October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, special lectures about breast health will be offered.

 

Dining at Dusk: Crozer-Keystone is proud to present “Dining at Dusk,” a low-cost dining program that offers free lectures geared toward seniors. Join us for these events in October:

 

Breast Cancer Awareness, featuring Mary Lou Patton, M.D., surgeon and American College of Surgeons cancer liaison physician for the Crozer Regional Cancer Center. Thursday, October 2, 5-7 p.m., Crozer-Chester Medical Center Cafeteria, 1 Medical Center Boulevard, Upland. Lecture is free; meal costs $5.30 and includes entrée, roll, choice of two sides, dessert and a fountain drink. Free parking is also included.

 

Ask the Doc...Understanding Breast Cancer & New Techniques in Treatment, featuring Linda Callans, M.D., DCMH breast surgeon and director of the Center for Breast Health at DCMH. Wednesday, October 8, 4:30-7 p.m., Delaware County Memorial Hospital, 501 N. Lansdowne Avenue, Drexel Hill. Lecture is free; meal costs $5.30 and includes entrée, roll, choice of two sides, dessert and a fountain drink. Free parking is also included.

 

How to Talk with Your Adult Children, featuring Barry Jacobs, Psy.D., director of Behavioral Sciences for the CKHS Family Medicine Residency Program and author of The Emotional Survival Guide for Caregivers. Wednesday, October 15, 5-7 p.m., Taylor Hospital cafeteria, 175 E. Chester Pike, Ridley Park. Lecture is free; meal costs $5.30 and includes entrée, roll, choice of two sides, dessert and a fountain drink. Free parking is also included.

 

Getting the Best Out of Your Medical Appointment, featuring Barry Jacobs, Psy.D. Thursday, October 16, 5-7 p.m., Cafe Carl (Healthplex® Sports Club in Springfield), 190 W. Sproul Rd., Springfield. Lecture is free; meal costs $5.30 and includes entrée, roll, choice of two sides, dessert and a fountain drink. Free parking is also included.

 

Physician Lecture Series: Senior Health Services offers the Physician Lecture Series at several Delaware County locations. Join us for these events in October:

 

Breast Cancer Awareness, featuring Mary Lou Patton, M.D., surgeon and American College of Surgeons cancer liaison physician for the Crozer Regional Cancer Center. Thursday, October 9, 5:30-7 p.m., Media Borough Hall, Mansion Parlor Room, 301 N. Jackson Street, Media, and Wednesday, October 15, 12:30-1:30 p.m., Crozer Medical Plaza at Brinton Lake, Community Room, 300 Evergreen Drive, Glen Mills.

 

Wake Up and Work Out: Start your day the healthy way! Come join us as Crozer-Keystone Senior Health Services and the Healthplex® Sports Club provide seniors with an opportunity to jump start their day by participating in structured health and wellness programs, while offering an affordable balanced breakfast. Participants will also benefit from the support of CKHS staff that will assist in coordinating medical appointments, as well as provide better access to appropriate medical services.

Program will be offered on Tuesday, October 7. A healthy breakfast, beginning at 7:45 a.m., may be purchased for $3 or less; followed by a 30-minute lecture on  Skin Care, both to be held in Café Carl. A one-hour physical fitness session will then be led by a member of the Healthplex® team. Free garage parking. Call 1-800-CK-HEALTH (1-800-254-3258) for more information and to register.  

 

AARP Defensive Driving: An eight-hour driving safety course held on two days that can help you improve your driving skills and save you money on insurance. Courses will be held on Tuesday, October 7 and Friday, October 10, from 12:30-4:30 p.m. at the Healthplex® Sports Club in Springfield; Friday, October 10 and Monday, October 13, from 12:30-4:30 p.m. at the Silberman Center, Room 302, of Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland. Cost of the course is $10, with check made payable to AARP.

 

CKHS Support Groups: CKHS offers Support Groups for a variety of conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease, arthritis, cancer, diabetes, stroke and more. For more information or to register for a support group, call 1-800-CKHS-KEY (1-800-254-7539).

 

Caregiver's Support Group, Thursday, October 2 at 6 p.m. When an adult child becomes the parent of the parent, it can become very stressful — sometimes individuals just need to realize they are not the only ones dealing with that situation. The Caregiver Support Group meets the first Thursday of every month in the dining room of the ACE unit of Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland. For more information, call 610-338-2729.

 

Arthritis Support Group, Thursday, October 2 at 2:30 p.m. at the Healthplex® Sports Club in Springfield. Learn how to live healthy with arthritis. Attendees are asked to check in at the Healthplex® for room information.  For more information, call 610-338-2729.
