Marie Wissing, a Taylor volunteer
for almost 30 years, recently
celebrated her 68th wedding
anniversary with her husband,
Albert.
Ridley Park, Pa--On August 10, 2008, one of Taylor Hospital’s most respected long-time volunteers celebrated her 68th wedding anniversary. Marie Wissing met her husband, Albert Wissing, on a blind date in 1936 on Thanksgiving Day and “from that day on we went together,” she says. They were married on August 10, 1940. After 68 years of marriage, Wissing says, “I wouldn’t want to be with anyone else. We get along very well, my husband and I.”
Judy Lieberman, director of Volunteer Services at Taylor Hospital, says, “Marie is a dynamic, sweet, vibrant woman who has been a lovely addition to the volunteer program.” Marie has done a great deal throughout her career as a volunteer but presently she works as a messenger. During the CME (Continuing Medical Education) year she registers doctors for continuing education programs.
Over the years, Marie has given over 3,500 hours of her time to Taylor Hospital and says, “I love it all.” Walking around and delivering messages; the people I work with. I look forward to going every week.” Wissing started her volunteer work in the 1970’s before the new hospital was even built. She used to run errands around the hospital and was assigned to nursing units 2A and 2B, but says she likes her current volunteer position the best.
Wissing is a generous woman with a big heart who says she will continue to give her services as a volunteer to Taylor Hospital as long as she can. “Her commitment and support is evident in every aspect of her life,” Lieberman says. With almost 30 years of service to the hospital and 68 years of marriage, it is obvious she is a dedicated wife and loyal volunteer. Taylor Hospital is grateful for all her work and congratulates her and her husband on their 68th wedding anniversary.
