Paul and Judith Kantrowitz, winners of Crozer-Keystone’s second annual “Dancing with Seniors” competition.
Springfield, Pa. – Paul and Judith Kantrowitz of Broomall, Pa. were declared the winners of Crozer-Keystone Health System’s second annual “Dancing with Seniors” competition, sponsored once again by the health system’s Senior Health Services department.
The ballroom dance competition took place on February 13, 2009 at the Healthplex® Sports Club in Springfield. Competing this year were seven couples, ages 50 and older. They each performed a cha cha, swing, and waltz to three predetermined songs: Havana Mambo, by Malaniña; I'm Still Standin', by Sir Elton John; and Ashoken Farewell Scythian, by Scythian.
While Judith has been dancing for 14 years and Paul for five, the couple agrees that they like the waltz best.
“We have done this particular number many times, and every time we do it, we get a little better,” Paul says.
The couple received a perfect score from judges Luba Somits, Debbie Simon and Karen Rawlings, members of the Delaware County community who have experience in various areas of dance.
“We entered the contest last year and didn’t get out of the first round,” Paul says. “So we didn’t expect anything going into this year. We were shocked when we won, but very happy. We were numb all weekend.”
In addition to the dancers, there were approximately 150 audience members cheering on the competition.
“This event was very well attended,” says Barbara Looby, administrative director of Crozer-Keystone Senior Health Services. “As I watched the dancers compete it was clear to me that we have redefined aging in America. On behalf of Crozer-Keystone Health System, it was an honor for the Senior Health Services department to organize such a popular and conscious event for our community.”
