Find Your Balance: HealthplexÒ Introduces New Fall Prevention Program for Seniors

The Healthplex® Sports Club recently introduced a fall prevention program designed for anyone who needs to improve balance, flexibility and strength as a result of age or infirmity.

Falls account for over 85 percent of all fractures in older adults. Falls typically occur because of internal changes in muscle strength, reaction time and sense of touch. The club’s two-part fall prevention program was created to assist with improving both strength and balance skills.

Wellness Coach Erin Maitland says, “Our intent with this program is to build confidence in our clients, allow them to gain more strength, perform everyday activities with ease and lessen the fear of falling.”

Each participant goes through a series of balancing assessments. These assessments give the program’s instructors an idea of the participant’s strength, confidence and balance while performing everyday activities.

A fitness program comprised of both cardiovascular and strength-training exercises is then designed to fit the participant’s needs and goals. The program is tailored to increase body control, posture and awareness. Participants can feel confident and comfortable in their workout routine because they will be under the care of qualified trainers, according to Maitland.

The program is offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:15 to 1 p.m. Cost is $60 a month.

In addition to the Fall Prevention program, the Healthplex Sports Club offers a range of wellness programs for those who are recovering from a medical condition and who may not be ready to exercise independently. A Healthplex® Sports Club membership is not required to participate in a wellness program. Some insurance reimbursements are also available.
