New to Exercising? Check Out ‘Active Living Every Day’ at the Healthplex®

Erin Maitland, left, and Grace Mincer are certified personal trainers who are leading the Healthplex Sports Club's new Active Living Every Day program.

Trainers at the Healthplex® Sports Club have developed a new program aimed at individuals who have yet to make exercise part of their weekly routines.

Active Living Every Day combines weekly hour-long educational classes with the club’s wellness programs to make a comprehensive, 20-week program designed to help people understand the importance of exercise and develop lifetime habits that will improve their overall health.

“Each week there is a lesson that covers a specific topic related to exercise, such as getting started, overcoming barriers, setting goals, building confidence, rewards, stress management and time management,” says Erin Maitland, a wellness coach at the club.

“Participants can attend one education class each week,” says Jim Gallagher, general manager of the Healthplex®. “Participants will also be encouraged to exercise up to three times a week in one of our wellness classes.”

Introductory prices for the program are $129 for Healthplex® members and $149 for non-members. There is a maximum occupancy of 20 participants per class. Presently, there are two education classes – one held during the day and the other held at night. Gallagher says he will add classes every 6-8 weeks if this initial run proves successful. Maitland, along with fitness instructor Grace Mincer, are the two certified trainers leading the weekly classes.

“We are trying to raise the knowledge level of the participants as to how exercise is important for a healthy lifestyle,” says Gallagher.  “Our hope is that people who complete the program continue to exercise on their own or join the Healthplex.”
