The National Arts ProgramÒ, a Malvern-based national organization that has been encouraging artistic expression since 1982, chose Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland to be the site of its first hospital-based exhibit and contest in the country in October.
The organization challenged Crozer-Keystone Health System employees, their family members and volunteers to submit works of art for an exhibit and contest. The Crozer-Keystone community responded with more than 300 entries representing all types of media – from painting to photography to sculpture. The works were on display to employees and the public in the James E. Clark Education Center from Oct. 24 to Nov. 4.
A reception and awards ceremony for the initiative took place in the Clark Center on Oct. 27. A committee led by prominent local artists George “Frolic” Weymouth and Anita Morris judged the works of art. Cash prizes were awarded to artists in two youth categories (under 12 and 12-18) and three adult categories (amateur, intermediate and professional). A “best in show” award was also presented.
A photograph of a young child in Jamaica earned Marlon Weir of Newark, Del., “Best in Show” honors as well as a first place designation in the Adult Intermediate category. Other first-place winners included: Tyler Barnett of Gibbstown, N.J., Youth Under 12; Jonathan Cap of Wilmington, Del., Youth 12-18; Judy Lieberman, Adult Amateur; and Marianna Shaw of Devon, Adult Professional.
“The National Arts Program exhibit and contest was a big success, and it showed just how much hidden talent can be found in our physicians, employees, volunteers and their family members. We thank everyone who participated in organizing the event and submitting such excellent works of art,” says Eugene Zegar, vice president of Human Resources.
