Taylor Achieves Primary Stroke Center Status
Taylor joins Delaware County Memorial Hospital (certified in June 2008) and Crozer-Chester Medical Center (certified in January 2009) as the only certified Primary Stroke Centers in Delaware County. Certification means that the hospital’s stroke program has met the highest national standards and guidelines that can significantly improve outcomes for stroke patients.
As a certified Primary Stroke Center, Taylor understands the urgency with Stroke patients to act quickly, provide a prompt diagnosis and treatment in order to save lives and reduce permanent disability. Becoming stroke certified means that Taylor has been awarded the Gold Seal of Approval from the Joint Commission, demonstrating an adherence to national standards and guidelines.
Certification is based on guidelines developed by the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association. They require applicants to have a stroke team and neurological services available around the clock, written diagnosis and care protocols, close coordination between the emergency department and emergency transport, and encourage the ability to have a dedicated stroke unit, in addition to specific clinical expectations. Stroke is an emergency, so you should know the signs and symptoms. If you suspect that you or someone you know is having a stroke, call 911 right away.
