Pre-teens, or “Tweens”, can now enroll in the Fit Teens certification program and earn the right to become full-privilege members at the Healthplex® Sports Club.
Fit Teens is a 7-week Pre-Teen certification class offered to 11 and 12 year olds that is taught by Healthplex® certified personal trainers.
Tweens who successfully complete the Fit Teens course are eligible to upgrade their membership before they turn 13, which is when they typically become full-privilege members. Class size is limited to five, and attendance is mandatory.
The Fit Teens group meets twice a week for the 7-week program, which includes instruction about nutrition, flexibility training, cardiovascular training, strength training and more.
The program incorporates hands-on learning about proper techniques, form and safety considerations. Tweens will learn about heart rate, how to monitor it and where it should be when working out. A basic overview of anatomy will also be included in the program.
Week 7 will consist of an overview of the education, followed by a written and practical exam that each student must take. Upon successfully passing the exam (80 percent or better), the tweens will then be eligible to join the club as a single member and have the privileges that the 13+ age group does.
The cost is $135 for members. Classes are limited to 5 participants. Registration is required.
