When Tim Arizin tells you that the Healthplex® Sports Club is the best club around, he’s speaking from experience.

Arizin, a former member of one of New York City’s premier health and fitness clubs, began working out at the Healthplex® two years ago, after his move back to the Philadelphia region.

“The club I belonged to in New York City was universally regarded as one of the finest clubs around,” he says. “After I returned to Philadelphia, I used the New York club as a benchmark – I wanted to find something equal to or better than it. My research quickly showed that the Healthplex® is much better than the New York club in regards to the track, the tennis program and other amenities, for a fraction of the price, and that it far surpasses every other health club in the Philadelphia area.”

Arizin, the son of former Philadelphia Warriors basketball star Paul Arizin, who has been named one of the NBA’s 50 greatest players, has spent much of his life playing basketball at some of the sport’s highest levels. Despite his lifelong interest in physical fitness, however, he was still shaken two years ago when he suffered a massive heart attack that required quadruple bypass surgery.

“My physician told me I had to adopt a daily exercise program or risk having to go back under the knife,” Arizin says. “That scared me enough that I decided that exercise was no longer a luxury for me. It is now a scheduled part of my life that I make a specific appointment for every day. I have 168 hours a week, and I set aside more than 30 of them solely for the purpose of exercise.”

Arizin now visits the Healthplex® twice a day, before and after work. He arrives at 5 a.m. to run on the club’s 1/5-mile track and use the Jacuzzi and steam room, then returns in the evening to play basketball, work out or play tennis, followed by another trip to the Jacuzzi and steam room.

“Using that Jacuzzi and steam room is the best way to unwind after a day of work,” Arizin says. “Some people stop by the bar to unwind, but I’d rather hit the Healthplex®. I sleep like a baby every night.”

Arizin appreciates the fact that most of the Healthplex®’s members share his workout mentality.

“People who go to the Healthplex® are serious about their work, their families and their health,” he says. “They will not compromise on any of those issues. They value the time they have to work out and they make the most of every trip to the club.”

Arizin also enjoys the club’s community atmosphere, bringing his two children, ages 10 and 12, there several times a week.

“When I was a kid, it seemed like there were always hundreds of kids running around the neighborhood, playing games,” he says. “Kids today don’t have that – they spend their time sitting in front of the TV or playing video games. At the Healthplex®, my kids get to enjoy that physically active experience. There’s always someone around for them to play basketball, run the track or take a swim with. It’s a great environment, especially during the winter months.”

Two years removed from his heart attack, Arizin credits the Healthplex® with helping him get his good health back.

“My cholesterol is down substantially, and my overall health situation is greatly improved,” he says. “I feel that the Healthplex® was a major part of that. The club is worth much more than what you actually pay each year in dues, from the amenities it offers to the effects it can have on your health. I’m getting back 10 times more than what I’m investing in the club. I’m getting the better end of the deal.”
