William Kay is best known in our community as the successful businessperson who owns and operates the Drexelbrook Community in Drexel Hill. A native of New York, he and his wife live on a sprawling horse farm in Chester County and share a passion for skiing.
Even though his life is busy keeping up with his business and family life, including 21 grandchildren, Bill never forgets to share his good fortune with others. Growing up, his parents shared with him the lessons of giving back to the community. He watched his father write checks to various charities and wondered why he was giving his money away. Today, he understands all too well the importance of sharing what you have with others. In fact, he feels it is a responsibility and supports many charitable organizations both with his time and financial resources.
A graduate of Cornell University, Bill feels indebted to his alma mater for the wonderful education he received and allocates much of his charitable giving to Cornell. He also helps out with their fund-raising endeavors by asking his Cornell friends and former classmates to contribute to various campaigns. Explaining his motivation and involvement, Bill states, “It is important for people to have allegiances.”
When Bill was invited to Delaware County Memorial Hospital to learn about the construction of a new Emergency Department and Critical Intensive Care Unit, he saw a need that he didn’t even know existed and wanted to help. Because he believes that hospitals are a very important asset within a community, Bill wanted to be part of the effort to ensure that the best possible health care would be available to those who live and work in Delaware County and beyond and graciously made a leadership gift to the hospital’s fundraising campaign.
Besides good health and fortune, what does William Kay wish for his children? That he has passed his charitable nature on to them through his deeds and actions so that they can also know the joy of giving back.
