Range of National Nurses Week Activities Planned

Crozer-Keystone Health System will once again celebrate National Nurses Week, May 6-12, with many events planned to recognize and honor the more than 2,000 nurses who work in the system.

This year’s theme, “Nurses: Strength, Commitment, Compassion,” reflects the dedication that nurses throughout the health system have toward both their patients and profession. Each hospital has a variety of activities planned, including:

Crozer-Chester Medical Center

  • Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union will present an investment workshop for nurses on May 9. Two sessions are scheduled: one from noon to 1:30 p.m., and one from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Both sessions will take place in Northeast Conference Room #3.
  • The Catherine Bakia lecture series will feature guest speaker Laura Gasparis Vonfrolio, R.N., Ph.D. She will speak in the Clark Auditorium on May 10 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
  • The Nursing Excellence Awards will take place May 10, immediately at the conclusion of the 10 a.m. Catherine Bakia lecture in the Clark Auditorium.
  • A banner recognizing the nursing staff will hang on the POB 2 garage all month.
  • All nurses will receive a gift.

Springfield Hospital

  • Night shift nurses will receive breakfast one day during the week.
  • Day, evening and weekend-shift nurses will receive hoagies one day during the week.
  • The Nursing Excellence Awards will be presented.
  • A poster recognizing the nursing staff will be displayed in the main lobby.

Taylor Hospital

  • A hot breakfast will be served for all nurses on May 10 from 7 to 8 a.m. in the small cafeteria. There will be gifts for all.
  • Lunch and dinner will be served for all nurses on May 10 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Classrooms A, B and C. Hand, chair and foot massages will be offered during this time. There will be gifts for all, as well as a raffle for gift baskets.
  • “A History of Taylor Hospital” will be displayed all week long.
  • A special recognition will be held for staff members who have been complimented by patients and family.
  • A banner recognizing the nursing staff will hang in the cafeteria all week.

Delaware County Memorial Hospital

  • A special meal will be served for all three nursing shifts.
  • A raffle drawing will take place during the week for physician-sponsored restaurant gift certificates.
  • Pictures of staff from all units will be displayed in the lobby.
  • All nurses will receive a gift.

  • The Nursing Excellence Awards will be presented.

“Our nurses touch people’s lives each and every day,” says Nancy Bucher, chief nursing officer for Crozer-Keystone Health System and vice president of Patient Services at Crozer-Chester Medical Center. “During Nurses Week, we celebrate nurses for their compassion, their skill and their overall commitment to help their fellow man.”
