Since joining the Crozer-Keystone family medicine residency faculty in 2001, and now as the associate program director, I continue to delight in and appreciate the diverse experience that our specialty offers.
After graduating from Cornell University and the Medical College of Pennsylvania, I spent two years in various medical editing roles. I was a free-lance editor for the Merck Manual for Medical Information, and then founded "Voice," the resident-student section of American Family Physician, which I continued through much of residency.
I trained at Fairfax Family Practice in Northern Virginia, where I developed my interest in family-centered maternity care. My faculty mentor helped show me (partly by caring for our family and delivering our third child) how obstetrics is truly an integral and wonderful part of family medicine.
After residency I joined a private family medicine office where I continued doing obstetrics, and I precepted family medicine residents on labor and delivery. My patients and colleagues were wonderful, and the clinical experience invaluable. But I missed the academic environment of a residency.
I completed a faculty development fellowship and collaborated on some medical writing projects. I have continued with medical writing and editing, and advocate for and practice family-centered obstetrics in this dynamic and enthusiastic residency.
In my non-doctor hours I concentrate on our children, Justine (born 1993), Ford (born 1995) Theodore (born 1999), and Antoinette (born 2002). My main passion is horseback riding, but my husband, children and I also enjoy running, soccer, gardening and reading.
