As a physician, I feel that one of my primary responsibilities is to be a patient educator. Using terminology that is appropriate to each patient’s needs is one of the ways by which I can achieve this goal. I also try to encourage patients to become self-educated about their health, illnesses and medical conditions. Building a long-term patient-doctor relationship is of the utmost importance to me. By carefully listening to the needs, questions and concerns of my patients, I hope to inspire trust, confidence and a good rapport.
One of my main focuses is the role of preventive medicine to achieve wellness. I often work with other specialists in order to improve the overall care and health of my patients and to keep them on the road to optimum health. I emphasize the importance of exercise for getting and staying fit, and I share personal anecdotes to inspire and encourage them. Specifically, I tell patients of my avid participation in tennis and running, not to mention caring for my three children and staffing their school health office. I am particularly interested in women’s health and pediatrics.
