Ultrasound is a medical imaging technique that uses sound waves and their echoes. Ultrasound has been used in a variety of clinical settings including obstetrics, cardiology, and cancer detection. An advantage of ultrasound is that it visualizes certain structures without using radiation.
What are some common uses of ultrasound?
 12-week ultrasound
- Viewing an unborn fetus.
- Examining many of the body's internal organs, including the heart, liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, and bladder.
- Show movement of internal tissues and organs, enable physicians to see blood flow and heart valve functions.
- Used to guide procedures such as needle biopsies.
- Image the breast and to guide biopsy of breast cancer.
- Evaluate superficial structures, such as the thyroid gland and scrotum (testicles).
Crozer-Keystone offers these procedures at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Delaware County Memorial Hospital, Springfield Hospital, Taylor Hospital, Media Medical Imaging and the Crozer Medical Plaza at Brinton Lake. |
