Crozer-Keystone Health System’s non-invasive vascular laboratories help doctors test and diagnose patients with vascular conditions. Staffed by highly-trained vascular technicians and doctors, the Non-Invasive Vascular Lab is accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories.
All tests are “non-invasive,” which means that no surgery is performed and there is no cutting into the skin. Rather, vascular specialists use blood pressure cuffs, ultrasound imaging, and other tools to help diagnose circulatory problems.
Non-invasive vascular procedures are performed at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Delaware County Memorial Hospital, Springfield Hospital, Taylor Hospital, Media Medical Imaging and the Crozer Medical Plaza at Brinton Lake.
Tests Performed by the Non-Invasive Vascular Lab
Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD): Blockages in the circulation to the arms or legs due to atherosclerosis or other diseases, which may threaten the limbs.
- Doppler arterial exams of the legs or arms (Physiologic testing)
- Duplex ultrasound scan of the extremity arteries
- Treadmill exercise testing for claudication (leg pain with walking)
Cerebrovascular Disease: Blockages in the arteries to the brain that may increase the risk of stroke
- Carotid artery duplex scan
- Transcranial Doppler (TCD)
Deep Venous Thrombosis (DVT): Blood clots in the veins that could migrate to the lungs
- Venous duplex scan of the arms or legs
- Inferior vena cava (IVC) scan
Renal Artery Disease: Circulatory disorders of the kidneys that cause hypertension (high blood pressure) or kidney failure
Mesenteric Arterial Disease: Disorders of circulation to the gut.
Aortic Aneurysms: A ballooning of the major artery that can cause fatal rupture.
- Aortic duplex scan
- Duplex scan of peripheral arteries for aneurysms
Chronic Venous Disease: Varicose veins and other disorders that cause leg swelling and leg ulcers.
- Photoplethysmography (PPG)
- Air plethysmography (APG)
- Duplex scan of the venous valves
Other specialized examinations
- Vein “mapping” for peripheral vascular or coronary bypass
- Arm artery “mapping” for coronary artery bypass
- Temporal artery duplex scan for temporal arteritis
- Ocular duplex scan for ocular ischemia
