A Healthy Traveler is a Happy Traveler
When you travel for business or pleasure, keeping healthy is important. To prepare you for your travels, the Crozer Travel Medicine Center and the Travelers' Health Service at Delaware County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) can provide you with the most up-to-date medical information available for your itinerary.
Why Bother with Travel Medicine Counseling
Whether you are traveling to the sunny beaches of Mexico, trekking through Nepal or going on safari in Kenya, you need to talk to a certified travel medicine specialist who can determine what your health risks are and how to avoid or minimize them. During a travel consultation, the Centers' directors, Dr. Vera G. Howland at Crozer, and Dr. Joan Waller at DCMH, review the travelers' health history and itinerary, including destination, length-of-stay and conditions of travel, in order to assess the risk of exposure to infection. Up-to-date information on health conditions and pre-travel advice on international immunization requirements and recommendations are also provided.
Counseling and immunizations are provided for both adults and children.
The likelihood of exposure to exotic diseases is higher as people travel to remote destinations and developing countries. Malaria, yellow fever, typhoid, cholera, and dengue are still prevalent in many countries, but with proper planning and immunization, most travel-related illnesses can be prevented. Remember, multiple immunizations sometimes require additional visits. Along with ensuring that immunizations are current, the Travel Medicine Centers educate travelers on safety; health concerns, including pre-existing medical problems that may require specific provisions, either during flight or the course of a trip; altitude sickness; and current issues on crime and terrorism
