The Corner...
For youth by youth

Answered by: Nefetaria Yates

Q. Do youth who reside in the city of Chester and attend private school face the same social dilemmas as their peers who attend the public school sector?

A. As a youth who resides in the city of Chester and attends a private school in Delaware, I see my peers who attend both private and public schools face the same social issues. There is really no difference in the social issues that we face in attending different types of schools. However, it may seem this way because most people do not find out about issues that arise in private schools until they are long gone since private schools are not as closely connected with the community. This seems to be the reverse in public schools because social issues that tend to plague public schools often spill out into the community and vice versa, therefore making it a community matter.

In conclusion, the answer is yes because even though we attend different types of schools we still live in the same community and therefore face the same dilemmas.
