Increase awareness of heart disease among women in Delaware County and beyond;
Help them recognize the signs and symptoms of a heart attack (which can differ from those of men); Motivate them to change unhealthy behaviors.
This initiative also seeks to enhance the way physicians approach prevention, detection and treatment of heart disease in women.
To develop a new model for care, the Crozer-Keystone Health System conducted benchmarking research on the attitudes and awareness that women in Delaware County have about heart disease. In conjunction with VHA, Crozer-Keystone commissioned a randomized survey of 500 women, ages 40 to 70, in households across the county.
To reach the goal of reducing heart attacks and heart disease, the hospitals of the Crozer-Keystone Health System, its physicians and staff members are implementing an aggressive awareness and community outreach campaign that includes CKHS-wide participation by the hospital’s ERs, cardiologists, primary-care and OB/GYN physicians; print/television advertising and unique TV exposure; and free community heart screenings.
