Depression

Depression is an illness that interferes with daily activities. It’s not the same as being unhappy and it is not a sign of personal weakness. Symptoms of depression can include: changes in eating or sleeping patterns; persistent sadness and anxiety; irritability and fatigue; feeling worthless and hopeless; loss of ability to concentrate; and a lack of energy in an individual. Depression is a physiological condition caused by an imbalance of chemicals in the brain, and is not a condition that can be willed or wished away. Treatment is often necessary and can be crucial to recovery.
