Every year, thousands of women die as the result of a heart attack. Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in women. It is important to know that heart attacks come on slowly and that the symptoms of heart attacks in women often differ from those that men experience. Women are more likely to experience nausea, dizziness, and anxiety as symptoms of a heart attack. Other symptoms include chest discomfort, shortness of breath, sweating, gas-like pain/indigestion, weakness or fatigue, and discomfort or pain between shoulder blades.
Although cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in women, it is the most preventable cause of death. These tips can help lower your risk of heart disease:
-
Exercise
-
Eat heart healthy meals
-
If you are overweight, lose weight
-
If you drink, drink in moderation
-
If you smoke, quit
