SPRINGFIELD - The Healthplex® Sports Club will once again offer the Delco Race Series, a free competition that promotes the health benefits of running while supporting the large running community in the county.
The club has partnered with five local 5K road races throughout the fall of 2007 and the spring of 2008 to create a separate, friendly competition for Delco runners. Participants in any these races are invited to also enter the Race Series – free of charge - by simply completing a registration form. Race Series participants compete for prizes at the end of each race, as well as cumulative prizes at the end of the five-race series. Top male and female finishers receive $300 and a six-month Healthplex® membership.
The participating races are:
-
Sept. 29: Eagle National Bank 5K Run/Walk at Delaware County Memorial Hospital, 501 N. Lansdowne Ave., Drexel Hill.
-
Oct. 14: Heroes 5K Run/Walk, 50 Powell Rd., Springfield.
-
Dec. 9: Reindeer Romp, Oakmont Elementary School, Darby and Eagle Roads, Havertown.
-
April 26 (2008): Elwyn Maximum 5K Run, 111 Elwyn Rd., Elwyn.
-
June 13 (2008): 8th Running of the Monk, St. Kevin Church, 200 W. Sproul Rd., Springfield.
Runners accumulate points based on how they finish in each race. Because points are cumulative, it pays to register early in the series. The prizes for the Delco Race Series are separate from the prizes for the actual race events, and Race Series participants have to register separately for each of the races.
More information and a printable application form is available at http://delcoraceseries.healthplex.net. Delco Race Series leaders will also be tracked on this site. Interested participants can also pick up a registration form at the Healthplex or call 610-328-8888 to have one sent to them.
