Eagle National Bank 5K Run/Walk: September 30, 9 a.m., at Delaware County Memorial Hospital, 501 N. Lansdowne Ave., Drexel Hill. Since 1991, this race has raised more than $300,000 to support the Delaware County Regional Cancer Center. Greater Springfield Business Association Heroes 5k Run/Walk: October 15, 9 a.m., at the Springfield Township  Building, 50 Powell Rd. Now in its 6th year, this race benefits the Hero Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to the children of police, firefighters and emergency medical personnel who have died in the line of duty. Reindeer Romp: December 10, 3 p.m., at Oakmont Elementary School, Darby and Eagle Roads, Havertown. Started in 2002, this race is sponsored by Nolan Painting and benefits the American Cancer Society. For more information and to register, visit www.reindeerromp.org.

 

Safe from the Sun:  May 6, 2007; registration starts at noon.; Kids’ Dash, 1:15 p.m.; 5K Race/Walk, 1:30 p.m. at Villanova University’s Pavilion, 800 Lancaster Ave., Villanova; race takes place around Villanova University’s campus, starting at the outside track. Special features include a health and wellness expo (1-4 p.m.) with many giveaways inside the Pavilion; a ‘Safe from the Sun’ toolkit that includes many sun safety items; and free screenings by dermatologists for skin cancer and melanoma (2-4 p.m.). Now in its third year, the race supports Melanoma International Foundation whose mission is to SAVE LIVES NOW through the early detection of melanoma and to empower patients and families with knowledge to better fight the disease. 7th Running of the Monk: June 8, 2007, 7:16 p.m., at St. Kevin’s Church, 200 West Sproul Rd., Springfield. Known as one of the area’s most challenging 5K runs because only .10 mile of the course is on flat ground, this race is sponsored by the Healthplex® Sports Club and benefits St. Kevin Church and several Healthplex® charities for under-served children in the community.
