What are Geriatric Services?
Geriatric services are designed for older adults who are 60 years or older. The treatment of psychiatric disorders in the older adult is complex, as multiple factors interact to affect health status. Our psychiatric, case management and treatment staff members are skilled in working through these factors and assisting older adults toward recovery. Services are provided in a smaller and separate location within Community Hospital. These services are provided in a pleasant atmosphere where clients are treated with dignity and respect.
What can I expect from Geriatric Services?
The treatment team will assist clients through the treatment process to reduce symptoms while maximizing individual strengths and resources. Your first appointment with the psychiatrist is generally an evaluation that lasts for about 60 minutes. During that time, the physician will ask many questions about your thoughts, experiences, and feelings. They will ask questions about your experiences, successes and challenges throughout your life. Some of these may be painful to talk about, but will help the psychiatrist develop a plan to assist you towards recovery.
You will be asked to follow up with your doctor on a schedule that depends upon your clinical need. Generally, appointments are less frequent as you begin to experience some relief from symptoms and start to feel better. Your psychiatrist is considered the treatment team leader and will offer you the services they feel are in your best interest.
What types of services are available?

How do I become eligible for these services?
Anyone experiencing symptoms that cause distress or interfere with your usual activities or responsibilities can be referred to a psychiatrist. Some insurance companies require you to use specific providers. Community Hospital and the County Office of Behavioral Health strive to make services available to everyone, but you may be required to utilize the providers that are designated by your insurance company. Depending upon your income, there may be a co-pay.
How long will I be eligible for services?
Services are available to you as long as you and the treatment team feel you would benefit from continuing the service.
