Counseling and Emotional Support
An acute burn affects a patient's emotional health, too. The Burn Treatment Center's psychiatric liaison nurse provides psychological counseling and emotional support to each burn patient and their families - from admission through follow-up outpatient care. Few if any other burn treatment centers in the country have a psychiatric nurse who is dedicated solely to treating burn patients.
The center's social worker provides counseling, information, and referral to community agencies that can help burn patients and their families. When a patient is ready for discharge from the hospital, our social worker can help plan for home care or placement options.
The Burn Treatment Center also provides full outpatient evaluation and treatment for persons who have suffered burns.
Burn Wound Care Center
After patients leave the hospital, our Burn Wound Care Center continues to provide outpatient burn wound management, including daily wound care and patient education, to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions and shorter hospitalizations.
Educational Outreach
In cooperation with the Burn Foundation, the center offers educational programs to area hospitals, schools, and health care workers. Educational programs are also available for children, including a re-entry program to schools for burn patients and a Firesetters program in conjunction with law enforcement agencies.
