Medical research has shown that the stress of a traumatic injury can drive up a diabetic patient’s blood sugar to a high level, and these patients are more susceptible to infection. Recent studies have found that quickly restoring and maintaining a normal blood sugar level reduces the chance of infection. Based on this evidence, Crozer’s trauma medical director and trauma pharmacist developed a strict blood sugar control protocol for our diabetic patients. This is part of our broad Evidence-Based Medicine program, which reflects Crozer’s commitment to providing the best patient care based on current research. |
