To facilitate care for patients in crisis, a new Critical Intensive Care Unit (CICU) is located directly above the new Emergency Department. Our CICU staff provides patient care with the most advanced technology in an environment especially designed for the comfort of patients and their families.
Led by CICU co-directors Homayoon Pasdar, M.D., chief of the Section of Vascular and Thoracic Surgery, and Edward LaPorta, M.D., Chief of the Section of Cardiology, the new unit includes:
14 large private patient rooms, that have replaced curtained cubicles, giving patients much more privacy and providing more bedside space to accommodate family members and clinical equipment.
A highly skilled and compassionate nursing staff with experience in the care of critically ill patients.
An efficient design that enables physicians and nurses to more easily monitor and care for patients.
A new patient status telephone update system. At the end of each shift, CICU nurses record a detailed update of each patient's condition. Family members can access the latest available updated by calling a toll-free number.
