Springfield Hospital EMS

Welcome to Springfield Hospital's EMS Website

The Paramedic Department of Springfield Hospital, Medic 106, has been serving the community since 1985. In conjunction with the The Springfield Fire Company and Springfield Ambulance Corps, Medic 106 is responsible for providing the paramedic service portion of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to the approximately 25,000 citizens in the 6.2 square mile area of Springfield Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. In addition, we provide paramedic services to the surrounding communities under mutual aid agreements.

About Our Staff

The paramedics of our department are all seasoned career paramedics certified in CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support, Hazardous Materials Operations, Fireground Operations,  Emergency Vehicle Operations, Vehicle Rescue and the National Incident Management System (NIMS). Selected members also hold additional certifications in these as well as other areas.

About Our Service, Vehicles and Equipment

Medic 106 is an Advanced Life Support (ALS), single provider paramedic unit that is dispatched to rendezvous on scene with the basic life support (BLS) ambulance operated by the Springfield Ambulance Corps and staffed by Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and First Responders (FRs). Once the patient has been evaluated, the paramedic decides if an Advanced Life Support (ALS) level of care is needed. If so, treatment begins on-scene and the paramedic accompanies the patient to the hospital aboard the BLS ambulance. If an ALS level of care is not needed, the EMT aboard the BLS ambulance assumes responsibility for the patient during transport. In times of high call volume, you may see medic units (ALS) and ambulances (BLS) from surrounding communities handling calls in Springfield Township just as we assist our surrounding municipalities. Medic106 is in-service 24/7/365.

Medic 106A is our reserve vehicle which is utilized when repair/ service is needed as well as during times that supplemental staffing is needed during special events.

Medic 106-9 is the Chief’s response vehicle. It is also a fully stocked ALS unit, providing on-scene assistance/support and responding to additional 911 calls when in-service.
