Founded in 1960 as Tri-County Hospital and later renamed Metropolitan Hospital, the modern-day Springfield Hospital, a subsidiary of Crozer-Keystone Health System , is a 33-bed not-for-profit community hospital that provides comprehensive acute-care services and wellness care. Each year, Springfield Hospital admits more than 1,900 patients and receives more than 10,000 Emergency Department visits. Established in 1996 to complement the full range of health and wellness programs at Springfield Hospital and throughout the Crozer-Keystone Health System, the Healthplex® Sports Club is considered one of the largest and most fully integrated centers of its kind in the United States. More than 6,000 members belong to the 176,000-square-foot Sports Club, which offers the following programs and services:
- Courts for tennis, racquetball, squash and handball
- 1/5 mile indoor running track
- Three basketball courts
- Comprehensive equipment for cardiovascular training and strength and conditioning
- A six-lane, 25-yard lap pool and a therapy pool
- Full-service salon and child care
- More than a dozen comprehensive wellness programs for people of all ages and conditions, including Aqua Arthritis, Osteo Fit, Aqua Mom and a variety of "Moms in Motion" offerings.
