Crozer-Keystone’s Physical Therapy Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation

Urinary incontinence and vaginal prolapse can be treated through physical therapy.

Crozer-Keystone has a team of female physical therapists who are specially trained in pelvic floor rehabilitation. You will initially meet with a therapist to evaluate your medical condition and formulate a plan of care. All therapy sessions take place on a one-on-one basis, in a private room away from all other therapy patients and activities. Services include:

  • Comprehensive evaluation.
  • Patient education: Includes identification of voiding patterns and recommendations for dietary modifications.
  • Exercise: An individualized plan to strengthen the pelvic floor and other core muscles, and correct imbalances.
  • Biofeedback: To enhance awareness of the pelvic floor muscles.
  • Autonomic quieting techniques: To improve the function of the bladder and restore balance to the nervous system.

Treatment duration is individualized and typically lasts from 4-6 weeks. The physical therapists work closely with physicians to provide coordination of care.

For more information or to schedule an appointment for pelvic floor rehabilitation, call (610) 328-8800.

Physician-Directed Treatment

Treatment may also include surgery, medication and/or use of a pessary device placed in the vagina to help support the pelvic organs. Some women who require surgery may be candidates for minimally invasive procedures.

The physicians of Delaware Valley Urogynecology partner with each individual patient to determine the most effective treatment to help relieve the pain, discomfort and embarrassment associated with a pelvic floor disorder.

You can be referred to Delaware Valley Urogynecology by your primary care physician or gynecologist/midwife, or can self-refer by calling the office at (610) 338-1810.
