Mammography uses X-rays to take pictures of the breast. It is routinely done to look inside your breast to determine if there are early signs of breast cancer.
Mammography uses a slightly different type of radiation than traditional X-rays; the radiation does not penetrate the tissue as easily as other types of X-ray. This allows the radiologist to see the soft tissue more easily.
