A History of Caring for Our Community
In 1925, when a group of local citizens met in the Drexel Hill home of Laura and Thomas Simmons, they recognized the need for a hospital in their rapidly growing suburban community, a hospital that would focus on the changing needs of the community. This commitment to the community was first realized when DCMH opened its doors on July 7, 1927, and it continues today. DCMH prides itself in adding and adapting programs and services to meet these needs, both inside and outside the walls of the facility.
Through its compassionate, clinically advanced, state-of-the-art patient care, as well as through the many programs offered outside in the surrounding community geared to education and prevention, DCMH is there working to ensure the health and well-being of its neighbors. Today, DCMH is a 220-bed, non-profit acute care facility with an outstanding medical staff, professional and support staff, all of whom are dedicated to the highest standards of excellence in patient care.
The Delco Memorial Foundation, founded in 1990, was established to support the mission of Delaware County Memorial Hospital and to help ensure its financial stability through a variety of fund-raising and "friend-raising" activities and programs. DCMH's ability to forge new treatment and prevention strategies, to pioneer technological advancements and engage in community outreach activities does not occur in isolation. Many individuals, businesses and community organizations give their time, money, insight and ingenuity through the Foundation to ensure the success of our hospital.
